Mementoes - an installation
Author: Katarzyna Kulińska
Production: Adam Mickiewicz Insitute, 2008
Artistic supervision: Maciej Drygas, Poldek Sobel, Mateusz Werner

As part of this project, the author met with people living in Poland whose closest relatives and friends left after the 1968 events. She spoke to them about the farewells, the problems with keeping up the contact, as well as about the traces left by those who departed – traces that are still present here. The point of departure was always the same – the mementoes kept by these people: photographs, sculptures, documents, objects of everyday use. All have become generators of memories to the protagonists of the project, and enabled them to commit history to the coming generations.
„Every schema will break down when we start to listen to somebody’s story.”
