Continuity is the most important thing. On Sophia Braun née Lewinter - an essay
Author: Karolina Famulska
Production: Adam Mickiewicz Institute, 2008
Artistic supervision: Viola Wein, Mateusz Werner

The essay „Continuity is the most important thing. On Sophia Braun née Lewinter”  presents the story of one of the March emigrants. She was a university student in Wrocław when in 1968 she finally realized she was unwanted in Poland. This is a story of a woman who had always felt she was different; she was a stranger, surrounded by distressing shadows of the past. That past – the great and tragic history of the Jews – became, after many difficult experiences in personal life, a demanding, but precious heritage. The essay tells the story of a lonely journey to the unknown; the story of a ripening, a reaching towards the truth about oneself and one’s authentic deep spirituality. This individual story is painted on the background of stormy history. The text was prepared on the base of conversations and correspondence with Sophia Braun – now a mature, fulfilled woman living in Tel Aviv. „There is always some kind of a lack that disables us from telling the truth”. Aleksandra Rozenfield, „The Thing about Language, or A Letter to Friend's”
